The Council have been approached by a local energy co-operative (EGNI) to install solar PV on numerous schools throughout Swansea. The provider will develop the scheme at their own cost, subject to the Council entering into a long term PPA. As a result, the Council will receive a 20% reduction on its headline energy tariff which is currently delivered through NPS. EGNI will benefit from Feed in Tariff (FiT) so will receive additional income if there is any surplus capacity which can be feed back into the grid. The FiT scheme is due to expire on 31st September 2020 so must be delivered prior to this date. The scheme will deliver financial savings, carbon reduction benefits and will also deliver educational benefits through ongoing engagement projects which EGNI will facilitate.
