Presentation - The Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2019. Minutes: Anthony Richards, Poverty and Prevention Strategy and Development Manager accompanied by Amy Hawkins, Tackling Poverty Service Manager provided a presentation on the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2019. The latest Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD 2019) had been published by the Welsh Government on 27 November 2019. WIMD was the official measure of relative deprivation for small areas in Wales. This was the first new index for five years and superseded the WIMD 2014. WIMD used the Office for National Statistics ‘Lower Super Output Area’ (LSOA) geography as its reporting unit, which sub-divides into 1,909 separate geographical areas with an average population of 1,600. There were currently 149 LSOs within Swansea, most of which fall within Swansea’s 36 Electoral Divisions or Wards. WIMB was made up of eight separate domains (or types) of deprivation: income, employment, health, education, access to services, housing, community safety and physical environment. Each domain was compiled from a range of different indicators. They noted that the WIMD was one of a number of tools used by the Authority and other local organisations to inform service delivery, resource allocation, funding bids and decision making. The Chair thanked the officers for the informative presentation. |
