Apologies for Absence.

Minutes:

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors R A Clay, U C Clay, D W Cole, A M Cook, J P Curtice, N J Davies, W J F Davies, G Owens, R C Stewart and L V Walton.

14.

Disclosures of Personal and Prejudicial Interests.

Minutes:

In accordance with the provisions of the Code of Conduct adopted by the City and County of Swansea, no interests were declared.

15.

Election of Lord Mayor for the Municipal Year 2014-2015.

Minutes:

RESOLVED on the motion of Councillor J E Burtonshaw, seconded by Councillor R Francis-Davies that Councillor Ceinwen Thomas be elected to the office of Lord Mayor of the City and County of Swansea for the Municipal Year 2014-2015.

 

Councillor C Thomas was robed and invested with the Chain of Office of Lord Mayor.

 

David Thomas was invested with the Chain of Office of Consort.

 

The Lord Mayor then made and signed a declaration of acceptance of office.

16.

Inaugural Address of the Lord Mayor.

Minutes:

The Lord Mayor thanked Council for her election and congratulated Councillor R June Stanton and Judith Twining on their successful term of office as Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress.

 

The Lord Mayor, during her address announced that her Chaplin would be the Father David Jones.

 

She concluded by announcing that the Lord Mayor’s charities for her period of office would be the Lymphoma, Leukemia, Myeloma Fund Wales and the Special Care Baby Unit for intensive care cots at Singleton Hospital.

17.

Retirement of Steve Dennis, Civic Officer

Minutes:

The Lord Mayor paid tribute and thanked Steve Dennis, Civic Officer stating that he was retiring from the Authority later that day.  Steve Dennis had worked for the Authority for 31 years, serving 21 Lord Mayors.

18.

Election of Deputy Lord Mayor for the Municipal Year 2014-2015.

Minutes:

RESOLVED on the motion of Councillor C A Holley, seconded by Councillor M H Jones that Councillor John Newbury be elected to the office of Deputy Lord Mayor of the City and County of Swansea for the Municipal Year 2014-2015.

 

Councillor J Newbury was robed and invested with the Chain of Office of Deputy Lord Mayor.

 

Eileen Newbury was invested with the Chain of Office of Deputy Lady Mayoress.

 

The Deputy Lord Mayor then made and signed a declaration of acceptance of office.

19.

Vote of Thanks to the Retiring Lord Mayor.

Minutes:

RESOLVED on the motion of Councillor A M Day, seconded by Councillor C L Philpott that the Council’s thanks be given to Councillor R J Stanton for a successful term of office as Lord Mayor and to Judith Twining as Lady Mayoress.

20.

Presentation of medallions to the retiring Lord Mayor and Lord Mayoress.

Minutes:

The Lord Mayor presented medallions on behalf of the Council to the retiring Lord Mayor, Councillor R J Stanton and to the retiring Lady Mayoress, Judith Twining.

21.

Response to the vote of thanks by the Retiring Lord Mayor.

Minutes:

Councillor R J Stanton in response to the vote of thanks thanked the Council for its support during her term of office.  She also reflected on the many duties during her terms as Lord Mayor.

22.

Common Seal

Minutes:

RESOLVED that the Common Seal be affixed to any documents necessary to bring into effect any decisions passed or confirmed.
