To confer the Honorary Freedom of the City and County of Swansea to Alun Wyn Jones.
Minutes:
The
Lord Mayor welcomed the Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Civic Dignitaries,
Distinguished Guests, Members of the Council and Alun Wyn Jones to the
Ceremonial Meeting of Council.
The
Leader of the Council referred to the meeting of Council held on 25 April 2019
(Minute 177 refers) whereby Council resolved to confer the Honorary Freedom of
the City and County of Swansea to Alun Wyn Jones.
Alun Wyn Jones was born in
Swansea and played his first rugby for Bonymaen RFC and Mumbles RFC. He is the current captain of the Wales
National Rugby Team. He currently plays
for the Ospreys. He is the World
most-capped lock forward and Wales’ most-capped player. He is the first player to play nine
consecutive British Lions Tests in the professional era and has appeared for
the Ospreys more times than any other player.
The
Leader of the Largest Opposition Political Group and the other Political Group
Leaders spoke in support of the motion.
Resolved that the Honorary Freedom of the
City and County of Swansea be conferred on Alun Wyn Jones.
The
Lord Mayor then presented Alun Wyn Jones with the Honorary Freedom Scroll,
granting him the Freedom of the City and County of Swansea.
Alun
Wyn Jones responded by thanking the Council for the honour.
